Share

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Lakeway today announced that it has been designated as a Level IV trauma center by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

With this designation Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Lakeway joins other trauma centers in the region and will provide support to trauma patients in Lakeway, Lake Travis and Bee Cave.

“We are pleased to receive this official Level IV designation from the Texas Department of State Health Services, and look forward to providing our services to patients with serious injuries seeking trauma care,” said Philippe Bochaton, president of Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Lakeway.

The Level IV designation means that Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Lakeway can treat seriously injured trauma patients, or stabilize and then transfer patients to a higher level trauma center, if more advanced care is needed. To earn this designation, the hospital met a comprehensive list of requirements established by the state, including having specific equipment on hand and maintaining lab and radiology facilities that are staffed around the clock and meet educational staffing requirements, which include extensive trauma training, among others.

“Trauma Program Manager, Rhonda Manor Coombes, and our entire team, have played an integral role in guiding the hospital through this designation process and acting as a Level IV trauma center to set in place quality standards and initiatives while also maintaining communication with our EMS partners in the community,” said Dr. Brian Spears, trauma program medical director at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Lakeway.

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Lakeway becomes the 12th hospital.
