620 HEB moving closer

Share

The HEB based development on 620 - an HEB expected to be even bigger than the Bee Cave store - moves closer as Lakeway's ZAPCO (P&Z equivalent) considers a major zoning change for the lot.

Item 9 for the Jan 8th meeting:

Zoning Change: Oaks at Lakeway. Consider a request from Stratus Lakeway Center, LLC, the owner of approximately 88.1 acres of land located at the intersection of Ranch Road 620 and Glen Heather Drive, for approval of a zoning change from C-1 (Office/Retail), C-2 (Commercial/Light Industrial), AG (Agricultural) and R-6 (Single-Family Residential – Rural) to PUD (Planned Unit Development).

  • Staff report and presentation
  • Public Hearing
  • Recommendation to City Council

Seriously putting one in Lakeway when the stores are going to be only 4.1 miles apart? Did they ever consider putting one further out on 71 to accommodate all of the new and already existing development, e.g. Sweetwater, West Cypress Hills, etc.? From where I live in Briarcliff, it is 14.9 miles to the HEB in Bee Cave.

To the person who did not like this, my original post, why? It is all true.....why does HEB feel yet another store needs to serve Lakeway? Just asking an honest question.....

I had heard talk of an HEB going in at the 71 entrance of Serene Hills. I also heard of a possible Costco out this way. Has anyone else heard the same or have any updates?

Editor - HEB have already acquired land at Serene Hills but have prioritized the 620 store for opening. No word on a Costco in the area.

Is there an update for what happened at the Jan. 8 meeting?

I agree, an HEB is much more needed to serve the rapidly growing are along hwy 71 (Sweetwater, etc.) I knew they already had the land for it, but why HEB is choosing the make a store in Lakeway a priority over one off Hwy 71 just doesn't make sense when the residents of Lakeway are already served by a Randall's and a the nearby Bee Cave HEB!

If y'all have ever shopped at the Randall's in Lakeway and saw their prices, you'd understand why HEB is going in across the street. Randall's won't last 6 months with an HEB nearby.

Could not agree with you more! Thanks for stating the obvious!

The all mighty dollar folks, studies must show that much more to be made in Lakeway than out 71.

I wholeheartedly disagree with you..... Why you believe more is to be made in Lakeway than out 71 is purely conjecture on your part.

The point could be that HEB wants to serve Lakeway and continue to cut into Randall';s market share, and that there are more exisiting people already there than further West..

HEB already serves Lakeway with the Bee Cave store. I find it hard to believe that people in Lakeway will not drive 4.1 miles to the HEB there over shopping at Randall's.

My husband and I don't. Do you realize it takes 10 minutes to get there from Cardinal Hills? Vs 5 to get to Randall's. Tack on 10 more minutes of travel time back. That's a 20 minute round trip when I could just go to Randall's. Granted I love HEB more than Randall's, but it's just a little too inconvenient. Too much goddamn traffic and too many lights to go through on 620 now. It's ridiculous.

Randall's is about as cheap or cheaper on Friday's with specials and Randall's card. Their bakery goods and ready-to-eat foods are soooo much better than HEB's and I'm on a tight budget. I would shop there more except HEB Bee Cave is right on the way to and from work. I just cook everything myself.

I think Whole Foods is cheaper than Randall's.

Well, did you know that that Randall's and every other one does not check for their put of dates. I have pulled a grocery cart full of out of dates at that store an when I approached the store manager, they said they are not required to, so therefore how many of you have eaten out of date stuff from that store. Allot was in the meat, dairy and sorry to say bakery. HEB does check for their out of dates and if you do fine one that is out of date you get a fresh one free. Unlike Randalls who will not. But then again why would they care because it's your money they are taking. HEB is Texas born and based, not Randall's.

I feel we need one Costco and Kohls in lakeway and population is growing so much and we have to drive about 15-20 miles for those stores.

Randalls is 30% higher than HEB. I've done the math.
