Library Knit-In

Bee Cave Public Library’s Knitting Club will kick off the New Year with a special charity event by participating in a global initiative called "25,000 Tuques" (French for "25,000 Woolen Hats").

Knitters and crocheters are invited to come to the library on January 7 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. to help craft warm hats for the 25,000 Syrian refugees arriving in Canada by the end of February. This initiative began in Quebec when a community of knitters wanted to offer a warm welcome to the refugees similar to their tradition of greeting newborn babies with a hand-knit “tuque.”  Their goal is to make sure all 25,000 refugees have warm hats with welcome messages to greet them when they arrive to begin their new lives in North America.

Cate Sweeney, Public Services Manager at the Bee Cave library, said “If you don't know how to knit or crochet a hat, you can use one of our super-easy hat looms that we'll have at our Knit-In Night! We also welcome anyone who wants to come and write welcoming notes to the hats we knit up.”  Community members are encouraged to knit or crochet hats at home and bring them to the library by the end of January.  All hats and notes collected will be mailed to “25,000 Tuques” in early February.  “Come help send some of our Texas warmth and love up North!” Sweeney added.

Bee Cave Public Library offers a wide variety of programming for families, teens and adults throughout the year.  All events are free and open to the public, although some are better suited for adults or teens.  For detailed information about specific events, call the library at 512.767.6626 or visit the library’s Calendar of Events on the website at Cave Public Library is located in the Hill Country Galleria, at the intersection of Highway 71, Ranch Road 620 and Bee Cave Road (FM 2244).
