Two news stories derived from last August's lightning strike at Field of Dreams this week.

 

First, the Hermann family have reached a settlement with the LTYA for an undisclosed sum of money.

 

Second, Bee Cave City Council have approved a Thor lightning detector at Bee Cave City Park. The $10,000 cost is covered by a private donation made by Adrian Overstreet and the Bee Cave Sonesta team and a check was presented to council last week.

"On Tuesday, April 26, 2015 the ownership group of the Sonesta Hotel Bee Cave announced a donation of $10,000 to the City of Bee Cave to enable the City to purchase a lightning warning system for the Bee Cave Central Park. The Thor Guard system that will also be installed at the new Sonesta Hotel and has been installed at various LTYA fields in Bee Cave, should help prevent a repeat of the unfortunate events of last August when a child was struck by lightning at the LTYA Field of Dreams.

 

Adrian Overstreet the managing member of the hotel ownership group, which previously owned the Hill Country Galleria, presented a check to Mayor Carolyn Murphy at Tuesday night’s council meeting.

 

Overstreet said that “during the six years that our group has been a part of Bee Cave, as the prior owners of the Hill Country Galleria and now as the owners of the new Sonesta Hotel we have been extremely grateful for the way the community has welcomed us and supported our various projects. This is our way of saying thank you and giving back, making Bee Cave a safer place for everyone who uses the park.”
