Spicewood Arts Society Presents “A Toast to Tony”

The much celebrated 2014-2015 concert season of the Spicewood Arts Society comes to an end with this year’s Motheral Family Annual Tribute to jazz great Tony Campise on May 8, 2015 at The Spicewood Vineyards Event Center, 1419 County Rd. 409 in Spicewood, Tx.

Memorable performers have graced the stage this year as the society celebrates its 15th year of bringing the arts to the Hill Country and now the momentum continues as legendary jazz greats gather to present an evening of delightful entertainment.

This year’s line-up includes renowned trombonist, musician, composer, conductor, and arranger Wycliffe Gordon, former member of the Wynton Marsalis Septet.  Gordon’s performance experience includes work with Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton, Tommy Flanagan and other top players from the swing and traditional jazz world.  He was on the cover of the October issue of Downbeat Magazine and was voted “Best in Trombone” by their critic’s poll the last three years.

Butch Miles, who has played on the drums with luminaries such as Count Basie, Frank Sinatra, and Sammy Davis, Jr., brings the maturity of his experience to the stage with the youthful imagination that keeps each performance fresh and exciting.  Spicewood Arts Society is delighted to have Miles back once again to help celebrate the wonderful contribution that Tony Campise has made to the music industry.

The legendary performers who will be joining Gordon and Miles  are Dr. James Polk on the piano, John Fremgen on bass, Dennis Dotson on the trumpet, John Mills, tenor sax, and Michael Mordecai also playing the trombone.  Jazz is not a hobby for this distinguished group, it has been a life-long passion honed to perfection through decades of having the opportunity to perform with the very best in the business.

Next year’s concert series will be announced during the course of the evening and says Greg Hani, VP of Fine Arts, “This is a great line-up.  I feel really good about it”.  Looking forward to another 15 years and beyond, Spicewood Arts Society is continuing to expand its passion for the arts in the ever growing communities that it serves and invites you to join the excitement of the 2015-2016 Season.

Doors open at 6PM with the performance scheduled for 7PM.  Wine is available for purchase from the vineyard.  For tickets go online to www.spicewoodarts.org.
