Spicewood Arts Society and The Reserve at Lake Travis join together to present in concert the legendary Ray Benson and MilkDrive, an Austin-based band known for its progressive blend of blue grass, jazz, and folk.

 

The venue for this rain or shine event is the beautiful outdoor pavilion of the Cypress Club, part of the gated, luxury waterfront community The Reserve at Lake Travis.  The Cypress Club, located at 2208 Seabiscuit Cove in Spicewood, Texas, is an exclusive facility with oversized oak trees on rolling hills and spectacular sunset views over the pristine shores of Lake Travis.

 

Ray Benson, one of Texas’ most enduring and acclaimed members of the music community, is best known as the front man for the nine time Grammy award winning “Asleep at the Wheel”.  Benson also finds time to pursue a number of other endeavors, one being his latest solo album “A Little Piece” which debuted in 2014.  A variety of musicians performed on the album with Benson, including the members of MilkDrive who will be appearing on stage with him at this special concert.

 

MilkDrive is comprised of multi-talented musicians, most of whom have been together since boyhood entering fiddle contests back in Idaho.  While most bands point solidly to one member on fiddle, one on guitar, and yet another on mandolin, members of this ensemble are not adverse to swapping instruments in order to showcase the special talents of each individual performer.  Rounding out the sound of this acoustic power house team is, of course, the smooth sound of the double bass.

 

Ray Benson, upon hearing the group play for the first time, dubbed them “some of the best musicians in the world”.  MilkDrive’s third and latest release, “Places You’ve Not Been” was recorded at Bismeaux Records, the South Austin state-of-the-art studio founded by Benson.  Recently at the Saxon Pub in Austin, MilkDrive joined “Asleep at the Wheel” and Dale Watson for a 2015 South by Southwest official showcase performance.

 

Spicewood Arts Society, celebrating its 15^th year, continually strives to bring the arts to the ever growing Hill Country areas of Spicewood, Bee Cave, Lakeway, and Marble Falls.  This partnering with The Reserve at Lake Travis makes it possible for this exciting family friendly evening of entertainment to be presented in one of the spots that truly depicts the reasons why we call this area home.
