With more accidents (some of them fatal) occuring every week on 71 bewteen HPR and Serene Hills there is lots of pressure on TxDOT to speed up the end of the roadworks and lane changes.

It has been confirmed that traffic lights will be erected at the Serene Hills entrance in Spring 2015.

In the meantime, the local drive to improve safety focuses on a potential speed limit decrease and on asking TxDOT to improve the masking of old lane markings. It is becoming clear that at sunrise and sunset reflections from the black material masking the lines is, in fact, showing up as white lines and confusing drivers.
