Lakeway treatment facility row grows

Around 300 people turned out last night to protest the Addiction Treatment Center which is being build next to Lakeway Elementary School. Although it remains unclear how the City can reverse the "automatic" permitting of the facility under its Zoning rules, the City Council is looking into its alternatives at a special meeting Friday afternoon. Some Bee Cave resident's children attend LWE. A petitioon with over 200 signatures is HERE

This is NOT a 'pedophile' treatment center, so why does it make a difference if it is close to a school?

2012-02-18 12:32:21 | AnonymousPlanet K is dangerous to not only the property values, but also morality. It is also a danger to the future of the Bee Cave/Lakeway community. That is my opinion, and like many would like to see Planet K go away. This is how I feel on one level.
On the other level I do not agree with all the actions of Bee Cave Council as a whole. I know that legally Planet K has the right to open even if I do not want it in our community. While the image of the City is tarnished once again by the council’s attempts to cover up, back track, or to force something they legally do not have the right to do, Planet K has received advertisement.
On what the council should do, they should tuck their tail between their legs, let Planet K open, only to close in a few years and go away. You now know where your weakness is in this part of the ordinance. Grandfather Planet K in and shelter the area from future situations. While you are there, revisit other ordinances that were written years ago. Make clarifications and implement changes where needed. Put armor on the city to now to protect it from future issues in other areas.
