It's confirmed - in a last minute announcement tonight Hill Country Galleria spokesman Adrian Overstreet confirmed the long awaited news - Whole Foods will be opening in the development in late 2011 or early 2012.

The Austin based company will open a 36,000 square feet store opposite Dick's Sporting Goods and near to McDonald's at the eastern end of the property.

It is one of three new Whole Foods stores announced this week in an attempt to stem the entrance of cheaper competitors like Sprouts and Newflower into their Austin home territory. One of Newflower's most recent stores opened right opposite the proposed Whole Foods site on Highway 71 in the Shops at the Galleria.

A smaller Newflower located in the similarly upscale Plano neighborhood of Dallas folded to pressure in June and closed after about 20 months - the area contains established Whole Foods and Sprouts. That area is known for its ultra competitive grocery scene.

My wife is in 7th Heaven knowing you are coming to the Galleria.. We currently drive downtown to your store and although its a great experience, your new store will see us far more often.

WELCOME to the Hill Country; you will blast em' away.

    See you soon

I think this is great! I love Whole Foods.
  • Barb  - Wow
That will provide some stiff competition for Newflower Market!
  • localmom  - WOW! A WHOLE FOODS...IN BEE CAVE?!
How exciting! Of all the places they could have expanded...Bee Cave? Fine with us! Although we love HEB and New Flower, Whole Foods is an amazing experience all around. I think they will be surprised at just how many 'westerners' drive all they way to the WF downtown to shop. Now we don't have to. Can't wait!!!
  • P. Wade  - So now they come
Interesting about Whole Foods. Many begged, ltr writing campaign, etc. when Galleria started. WF wasn't interested. Guess now because they want to drive someone out of business. Newflower took a chance on us. I will still shop there although I will shop some at WF. I hope people will continue to also support Newflower. Overstreet accomplished the impossible.
  • Frank West  - Whole Foods great!
Whole Foods coming to Bee Caves will be great. Now, it would be even better if it were a Trader Joes. :):) So how about a Bed Bath and Beyond to fill the old Linens and Things slot??
  • Mary
Newflower filled the linens and things space!
  • Lisa  - I will support Newflower
I agree with the poster above. There was a letter writing campaign in my neighborhood doing nothing short of "begging" WF to come a few years ago. I don't think WF did as much as honor us with a response. There has been a clear desire and vacuum. We needed it and were modestly excited when we at least got Newflower. While they don't have everything Nwflower does, and I will have to go to WF for some things, I will stay loyal to the store that came.
  • Bob Chalfant  - Whole Foods or Whole Wallet
The store that should come to Austin i.e Bee Cave is Trader Joe's. Beats WF hands down and far less money.
  • Bob  - Newflower is not Good
I am welcoming Whole Foods with open arms. I have shopped Newflower and they are not good. They treat their employees bad and don't have their act together.Come on Whole foods we want you now for some real food shopping experiences.
Newflower is a Organic wanna be.They constantly mistreat their employees. We have had to return out of date foods that Newflower was trying to pass off as fresh. We are looking forward to a real grocery store in the Galleria area.
  • Michael Lynton  - Can't wait!
We are new to the area and love Whole Foods. We also go to the Downtown store at least once/week. I think a WF store out here will be awesome and should see a lot of business. And it will be interesting to see if New Flower hangs on. They have some good deals, etc. And I don't like to see businesses not make it. But I do love WF, for some things, and the experience.

Way to put Bee Cave even just a little more "on the map".
  • Peter Gillespie  - Thank you Mr. Dixon (Flash)!
I can't wait to once again be a loyal customer.
  • Stacy Cordray  - Counting the days!
WOW! Just moved from the D.C. area and after having shopped Wegmans and Whole Foods there was gravely disappointed in the overall grocery shopping experience in the area. CAN'T hardly WAIT! for your Bee Cave location! Welcome!

  • Tandie van den Berg  - Bee Caves Opening
When exactly is the grand opening of Whole Foods? I'm very interested in getting a job there but don't exactly know how. Are there any websites where you can apply? Or do you go to the store while they are still building? Any info would be nice, thank you!

  • Caroline  - No reason to expand if the cost isn't right for t
For those with hurt feelings at not having a store the minute you asked for it or tried to get organized with a letter writing campaign, this is business basics. I'm sure the cost of opening a store at that location was less expensive after the bankrupt filing. I'm also sure Whole Foods wouldn't make a move these days unless they know it will be successful on several levels and won't put a strain on the company finances. They already learned the hardway once.
