Covert issue now embroils Springfest
The Lake Travis Chamber of Commerce Springfest seems to have run into issues with the anti Covert groups protesting the proposed 71 dealership. Their sponsor list and poster prominently features a Covert logo.
Numerous posts are appearing on the Springfest Facebook page HERE
Anti Covert members have started to put pressure on the Chamber via Social Media and requests to the Chamber's staff about the timing and background of the sponsorship deal with Covert have so far gone unanswered.
Covert are a new sponsor of the event but do not appear to be a Chamber member, nor to operate currently in their coverage area - although several members of the Covert family are know to live in the area.

2013-03-23 08:59:59 | nonsense - who caresJust because Covert sponsors an event doesn't mean they are going to sway public opinion about them putting a dealership out here. Give the people in your community a little more credit than that. At least someone stepped up. I think its silly and immature for people to "boycott" an event b/c of this. Who cares why Covert donated money to it, its not going to change anyone's mind about the main issue. At least they stepped up. Without corporate sponsorships, these events wouldn't be possible. I don't want them out here either, but grow up people.

2013-03-24 10:32:53 | covertiscoming - progressI agree with nonsense...Covert offered an olive branch to the FHW community by sponsoring a family/community oriented event. Boycotting your local COC isn't the right answer.

2013-03-24 21:34:32 | No Covert in Bee Cave!! - Go away!Covert is not wanted in Bee Cave. Covert is not a member of the Chamber. The Chamber is supposed to support local businesses, and Covert is not a local business. If this isn't about the Money, refund Covert's money and remove them as a sponsor. I don't want an unwanted entity sponsoring a community event. Covert is not part of this community.

2013-03-25 00:01:30 | Anonymous - Covert trying to buy their way inIf Covert wants to win favor they should be spending their money on mitigating the issues they are creating, rather than advertising through sponsorship. They are building up against an existing neighborhood with three story parking garage, 24 hr lighting, etc.. Taking Coverts' money while they are not actually a local business and while there is so much community opposition is not respectful or supportive of the local citizens of Bee Cave.

2013-03-25 04:24:11 | liz - nonsense? How do you figure Covert is offering an olive branch? NOT. they are just trying to weasle their way into our community where they are not welcome! It's sneaky and underhanded. How is this an olive branch? An olive branch would be an apology, an attempt to move farther West where there is open land, not next to a residential neighborhood. Somewhere it is SAFE to enter/exit the highway!! Maybe when you see someone get killed trying to get in and out of there you will realize this is not a good location for a heavy traffic dealership!! Would you want bring lights shining in your backyard? Would you want a 3 story parking garage plopped down next to your house/backyard? Would you like to listen to a PA system go off every couple minutes in your backyard? NO I doubt it! It is not an appropriate place to build a dealership. so I guess you equate "growing up" with just rolling over or bending over and letting whoever do whatever to you! I hope you are a better business man/woman than your post would indicate. I still want to know what the olive branch is???? How is this a good thing for Falconhead West? Maybe agreeing to not put up lights or a PA system or agreeing to not build until the roads are improved and SAFE to build in that location....a CONCESSION would be an olive branch. This is just a IN YOUR FACE, YES WE ARE COMING WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT!!!!

2013-03-25 11:41:27 | MichaelThe community has made it clear that a car dealership is absolutely inappropriate right next to a residential neighborhood. The noise and light pollution will destroy the peaceful hill country atmosphere and the additional traffic will be a hazard on an already dangerous highway.
The Coverts know they are not wanted in our community and have demonstrated no intentions of being a good neighbor. Their sponsorship of Springfest is not an olive branch - it is a slap in the face to our community.

2013-03-25 22:03:32 | Kirk - No olive branch. COC selling outIf Covert had wanted to offer an olive branch, then they wouldn't have told the concerned citizens that met with that they didn't care about being right next to a neighborhood and were not open to looking anywhere else nor interested in modifying their plans.
The chamber is supposed to support local businesses. How does taking money from an outside business that has no presence here, doesn't even have a sign up letting folks know they are coming, and has been publicly embroiled with local residents and a city council that doesn't want them here, make any common sense? It's simple greed and a desire to fund an event. I'd love to have this event, but not by funding it with "bribery."
