Austin Energy settlement rankles
After years of legal battles, the settlement proposed by Austin Energy to customers outside the City is meeting with resistance and rancour.
The issue has always been money paid by the Energy entity into general City funds used for unconnected projects. In essence these payments are regarded as a way of raising taxes - in this case on non voters who live outside the City limits.
Although the planned small discount levels will take effect in June, the increases started in October. The local Homeowners United for Rate Fairness coalition has agreed to drop its appeal to the PUC.
