TEDx comes to Austin
For the uninitiated, TED Talks (Technology Entertainment Design) began as a simple attempt to share what happens at TED (an annual global conference in Long Beach, CA) when people from those three worlds come together. Under the moniker "ideas worth spreading," talks were released online. They rapidly attracted a global audience in the millions. Indeed, the reaction was so enthusiastic that the entire TED website has been reengineered around TED Talks, with the goal of giving everyone on-demand access to the world's most inspiring voices. As of November 2012, TED Talks have been viewed more than one billion times.
TEDx are independently organized events which follow the TED premise. In fact, in a 2012 New Yorker article it was revealed that five TEDx conferences take place around the world, every single day. It's truly become a global movement.
Says local organizer Scott Robinson: "We are conducying our own TEDx event in Austin for youth based on this purpose with engaging stories, inspiring performances, and intriguing presentations. We will explore what the theme of LimitLess means to each of us. Is it the incredible passion and dedication of youth? Is it their boundless creativity and imagination? Is it their enthusiasm and optimism? During TEDxYouth@Austin, we will discover that, for empowered youth, the possibilities are truly LimitLess!"
Lake Travis HS and engaged MS students are encouraged to register - the deadline is 2.14.13 - seating is limited. Get ready for March 30, 2013!
