Local groups have posted the following warning on local web sites as of the morning of Wednesday the 16th:

"Please be on the look out for a tan/beige sedan possibly a Honda Civic with two Hispanic males in their 40's.

This car was watching the neighborhood children get off the bus on Seawind off Lakeway Drive on 1/14/2013. They came back around 10:30pm and tried to break into one child's home through her window. She heard them talking in Spanish and alerted her mother. The porch lights were on and they were all home. If you see this vehicle please try to get the license number and call the Police Department immediately.

Please be very careful with your children getting on and off the bus.

The Police are actively trying to find these two men. This is a very quiet neighborhood and we are all on high alert. These men are very brave and tampered with the window with the lights on and everyone home."

On Thursday we received this from  Chief Radford, Lakeway PD:

"Information in currently circulating e-mails regarding an alleged attempted break-in at the home of a young girl and her family is inconsistent with the facts as reported by officers on scene within minutes of the incident. Additionally there is no information linking two males in a vehicle watching children to this or any reported incident.

In the interest of public safety; the Lakeway Police Department encourages citizens to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity."

Then Lakeway PD issued the following statement:

"LPD press release: On the night of 1/14/13, Lakeway Police were dispatched to a residence on report of suspicious circumstances.

On arrival, the officers were told that a juvenile resident had heard male voices outside her bedroom window and someone tapping on the window. The juvenile’s father had gone outside to investigate, but he had not seen anyone there. The police searched the area but located no one. The police also attempted to locate prints on the window but observed none. The juvenile’s mother told the responding officers that she had seen two men riding in a car earlier in the day when the school bus was picking the children up for school. The mother felt that the men’s behavior was suspicious because they were driving slowly and appeared to be looking for someone. The mother had never seen the men in the area.

At this time, it is unknown if a burglary or other crime was attempted. The investigation is ongoing.

As always, the Lakeway Police Department encourages citizens to remain vigilant and aware and report any suspicious activity immediately by calling 9-1-1."
