Did Janitor make genuine mistake?
A local source has informed us of a story about the recent lock down at LTHS/LTMS and the subsquent firing of a Janitor for raising a "false alarm".
It appears one of the coaches from the Midway Volleyball Team was inside the school when the lock down occurred and stated that they were locked in the gym for 3 hours during the ordeal.
He also stated to our source that a LT booster was bringing in a brisket for the concession stand which he packed in a box for ease of carrying. The booster also had a pair of tongs stuck into his front pocket. This Midway coach tells our source he is of the opinion that the whole situation may have arisen from the Janitor seeing this guy carrying a box and something shiny that may have resembled a gun in his pocket.
While inconsistencies remain with the Janitor's story, this throws an interesting alternative light on the story.
An LTISD spokesman, when contacted, repeated their previous comment: “Upon extensive review of the incident, District officials concluded that there exists no evidence to substantiate the individual’s claim.” We await commentary from the Sherriff's Department.

2012-01-19 15:03:37 | Alan Kleymeyer - Too hard on whistle blower?I would like to know what basis was used to fire the employee. If it was a genuine mistake with no intent of malice then next time a similar situation arises and there IS a suspect intending to do harm, do you think a LTISD employees would now be willing to risk their job if they weren't absolutely sure of what they saw? I think the school overreacted that day and may have scapegoated the employee. Again, I don't know the employee's background if they had cause to fire them, but I'd like to know the details.

Doesn't school cameras have zoom button?
If janitor made honest mistake, so did Law enforcement.
Why wasnt coach or booster identified by janitors description of alleged gunman?
Hopefully professionals will investigate janitor and she will be cleared of any wrong doing .

2012-01-21 17:43:57 | l meyer - anonymousThis man was asked to return so that she could identify him. However, this was hours later and she had been subjected to officers with guns and questions for so many hours... she was probably doubting herself completely and didn't want to be wrong again. She said she couldn't be sure it was him.

2012-01-19 23:41:26 | CuriousWhy do they have a chaplain? There's a separation of church and state.
-
2012-01-20 22:53:38 | Anonymous - Church & StateThe whole separation of church and state written into our constitution is strictly related to state sponsored religion, in other words, the separation only exists as it relates to keeping the state read this as the United States, from having their own religion. It has nothing to do with keeping anything religious out of anything having to do with the state or a local state government. Police Chaplains are really very common. Austin PD, Cedar Park PD, DPS, Leander PD, the Sheriffs Office, all those agencies have chaplains. They serve a very beneficial role to the officers and their families.

2012-01-21 16:37:05 | Just meThis account doesn't seem right.
Why would a coach from the "Midway Volleyball Team" have been on our campus that day? Volleyball season was over by well before this date in December, and LT was hosting a men's basketball tournament.
I would love to know what really happened, but I don't think this account gets us any closer.

2012-01-22 14:40:11 | Big brotherI'll tell you what bcpd does. They have off duty officer doing traffic patrol for 20 minutes outside the elementary school and gets paid for 2 hours. Contractural work - you know. Your tax payer dollars at work.... NOT!
Dont have enough officers to do traffic patrol at dismissal time, but- can see an officer parked at the bottom of Hamilton pool rd often. The SAFETY of the children and parents goes on the backburner bc generating revenue is obviously more important.

2012-01-23 14:28:54 | Anonymous - Reply to anonymous - church & stateChaplains were made for military to have regligion brought to them when they couldn't go to church because of their location/duties. Police can go to services when they feel like it, they aren't in similar situation.
The fact that other PDs use chaplains isn't anymore correct.
State money shouldn't be used to fund religion.
Chaplains are legal if:
1. religiously neutral
2. has a secular purpose
3. avoids excessive religious entanglement
4. has a long standing history
