Charter passes
The Home Rule Charter Commission approved the draft City Charter (link HERE) on Monday evening and the Council unanimously accepted it last night. Next step is placing it on the ballot in May for voter approval.

* initiative -to initiate legislation,
* referendum- to reject legislation enacted by City Council
* recall - to recall sitting mayor and city council members for cause.
I urge everyone to read the Charter. It provides the opportunity for real grass roots Democracy.

I urge everyone to do their due diligence and get informed on the benefits of Home Rule.

I am a limited government conservative and I don't tend to favor more government power. However, I am not an anarchist. A civil society needs rules and the ability of the citizens to control their fate. The way Texas government is structured, cities that are not home rule have more limited control over their surroundings. This isn't about more government control, but rather who has the control. I'd much rather see more power in the hands of our citizens.

I hope everyone takes the time to read the Charter. We need an informed electorate. The charter commission, which was comprised of citizens from across the different Bee Cave neighborhoods, spent many hours working to ensure we have a product that empowers the people and the city to support and protect our hill country way of life. Home Rule is a good thing and we need to vote it in!
